The Approach

What is design for manufacturability?

Design for manufacturability is the practice of engineering a part so it can be produced reliably, repeatably, and cost-effectively — before tooling is ever cut. Good DFM catches fill, porosity, tolerance, and material issues on the drawing, not on the production floor where they’re expensive to fix.

MES applies DFM across die casting, forging, extrusion, and machining. Because our engineers aren’t tied to selling one process, they recommend the process, alloy, and supplier that fit your part’s geometry, volume, and application — then engineer it to your spec so it comes off the line right the first time.

One Team

One engineering team. Every process.

Most sourcing companies specialize in a single process — so every part gets engineered to fit what they already sell. MES engineers span die casting, forging, extrusion, and machining, which means we start from a simple question: what’s the right way to make this part?

That process-agnostic view is where the savings and the quality come from — lower tooling cost, fewer redesigns, better part performance, and a program that hits spec on the first article, not the third.

How It Works

From concept to launch.

A proven five-step path — reviewed, simulated, qualified, and launched by one accountable engineering team.

Nothing releases to production without first articles and PPAP confirming the part meets spec.

01

Concept & DFM review

Your part is reviewed for manufacturability before anything is quoted or cut.

02

Process & material selection

MES matches the right process, alloy, and supplier to the part.

03

Tooling design & simulation

Tooling is designed and validated with simulation to catch issues early.

04

First article & qualification

First articles and PPAP confirm the part meets spec before production release.

05

Launch & continuous improvement

Your project engineer manages launch and drives ongoing process improvement.

Why MES

The MES difference

How most suppliers manage quality
How MES manages quality
Inspect at the receiving dock
Verify at the source, inside the factory
Rely on the supplier's self-reporting
Put MES engineers on the production floor
Discover defects after delivery
Catch and correct drift during the run
Hand you the documentation to chase
Deliver CMM, FAIR, and material certs with the order
Escalate only when something breaks
Communicate status proactively, every step

Every account gets a dedicated supply chain specialist and planner who own quality, inventory, and on-time delivery as one program.

Global Coverage

Engineering support everywhere we source.

MES project engineers support programs across the key manufacturing hubs of Mexico, Europe, Japan, India, China, and Vietnam — including our company-operated Metrics Works facility in Saltillo. Wherever your part is made, the engineering standard and the accountability are the same.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

DFM is the practice of engineering a part so it can be produced reliably, repeatably, and cost-effectively before tooling is cut. It catches fill, porosity, tolerance, and material issues on the drawing rather than on the production floor, reducing redesigns and cost.

MES provides engineering and DFM support across die casting, forging, extrusion, and CNC machining — with over 75 years of combined manufacturing experience.

Because MES engineers aren’t tied to a single process, they evaluate your part’s geometry, volume, and application and recommend the process, alloy, and supplier that fit best — before tooling is designed.

Both. MES supports design for manufacturability from concept through launch, then manages sourcing, quality, and delivery — so design and supply chain are handled by one accountable partner.

Yes. Every program is assigned a dedicated project engineer who provides personalized oversight of your part and supply chain from concept through production and continuous improvement.

By combining DFM and simulation up front with first-article validation, PPAP, and source-based inspection — critical features are verified where the part is made, before it ships.
